DAS SCHMIDT spent his teenage years obsessed with listening to music and bands. It wasn't until around the age of 20 his interest grew from listening to playing, and he picked up the guitar and got started teaching himself and refining his skills towards his choice of musical armory. “I started writing music and playing live around 2004 cutting my teeth in Melbourne’s alt/metal scene with various Metal bands”.
2010 saw DAS keen to inflict his grinding guitars in his new role as HATCHET DAWN’s guitarist. After a handful of intense jam sessions DAS “Chainsaw” SCHMIDT was born, bringing his monstrous guitar tones to the monstrous sound of Hatchet Dawn.
DAS is a force to witness live as his razor sharp hooky melodies and down picking “djent” attitude displays a furious wall of SCHMIDT style forging the wall of unique modern edge guitar work with partner in crime HOWSIE NOISE.
